FAQs: Voicemail

Q:  How do I set up my Voicemail mailbox?
A:  Follow these steps to set up your Voicemail mailbox:
  1. Using your Nextel phone, dial your 10-digit Nextel phone number. Follow the system instructions to create a new password.

    If you are calling from a phone other than your Nextel phone, dial your 10-digit Nextel phone number. When you will hear a greeting, press the "*" key to access your Voicemail account.
  2. When prompted, enter your password. (If you are a new user, enter the last seven digits of your phone number. This is your temporary password.)
  3. After entering your password, press “1” to continue the initialization process in Spanish. Otherwise, the process automatically continues in English.
  4. Follow the instructions given during the recorded tutorial to: Create a new four- to seven-digit password. Record your name and greeting.
  5. When the system says, "Enjoy using Nextel Voicemail," your mailbox is set up.

Q:  How can I check my Voicemail messages?
A:  For i1000, i2000, i500plus, i550plus, i700plus, i1000plus or i2000plus phones:
  1. From the Phone Ready screen, press the option key under "Mail".
  2. Select Voicemail by scrolling to Voicemail or by pressing the "1" key.
  3. Press the option key under "Ok". The Voicemail screen appears. The numbers of new and total messages display.
  4. Press the option key under "Dial". NOTE: If you hear a message that says, "Enter the phone number of the subscriber you are trying to reach," enter your own 10-digit Nextel phone number. When the greeting plays, press the "*" key to receive the password prompt.
  5. When prompted, enter your password.
For other phones:
  1. Access the Message Center.
  2. If MESG is one of your display options, press the option key under MESG.
  3. If MESG is not one of your display options, press the "menu" key, scroll to Messages, and press the option key under SELECT.
  4. Scroll to Voicemail. The numbers of new and total messages display.
  5. Press the option key under CALL. NOTE: If you hear a message that says, "Enter the phone number of the subscriber you are trying to reach," enter your own 10-digit Nextel phone number. When the greeting plays, press the "*" key to receive the password prompt.
  6. When prompted, enter your password.

Q:  What do I do if I forgot my Voicemail password?
A:  After you've registered as an Account Administrator on www.sprint.com/mynextel, click Reset Voicemail Password under My Subscribers. Sprint will reset your passcode temporarily to the last seven digits of your phone number.
From your phone, you can then access voicemail using this temporary number in order to establish your new passcode.

Q:  If I accidentally delete a message, how can I recover it?
A:  You can recover deleted messages by pressing the "*" key, then the "3" key while you are still in the Voicemail session during which you deleted the message(s). However after you end the session, you can no longer recover deleted messages.

Q:  How can I immediately stop the ring alert for an incoming phone call when I'm currently engaged in a call?
A:  If you subscribe to Voicemail, you can transfer an incoming call directly to Voicemail by pressing the option key under "End" on your i2000plus, i1000, i1000plus, i700plus, i550plus, or i500plus phone. For i95cl, i90c, i88s, i85s, i80c, i60c, i55sr, i50sx, i35s and i30sx phones, press the End/Home key or press the option key under NO while your phone is ringing. For all other Nextel phones, press the button marked with a square, on the top right side of the phone.

Q:  Can I retrieve my Voicemail messages when outside my home market?
A:  You can check messages when traveling outside your home market by dialing your own Nextel phone number. You will incur a long distance charge when dialing your number outside your home market.

Q:  Can my Voicemail be forwarded to another mailbox?
A:  Yes. To forward a message to another mailbox you should chose option 5 from the Personal Options menu in your Voicemail.
