What is NextMail Text Messaging service?

NextMail Text Messaging allows a person at a PC to send a FREE Short Message Service (SMS) text message to a NextMail subscriber's Nextel phone. Upon reading the message, the subscriber can push the Nextel Direct Connect® button and speak to send an audio email response back to the PC.
The feature delivers simple, non-intrusive communications to mobile teams equipped with NextMailSM service. A recipient can conveniently respond at an opportune moment, and without the time, attention and effort of typing a text message. Back To Top >>

How is a NextMail Text Message different from a regular SMS text message?

Unlike a normal SMS text message, a NextMail Text Message can be responded to with voice at the push of a button. The response is delivered to the originator's email address instead of to another mobile phone.
NextMail Text Messages are not two-way text messages. Therefore the recipient can only respond by pushing the Nextel Direct Connect® button and sending an audio response to the message originator. Back To Top >>

Do I have to be a NextMail subscriber to send a NextMail Text Message?

No. Non-subscribers can use NextMail Text Messaging to send communications to NextMail subscribers. However if you are not a subscriber, at least one NextMail subscriber must have you set up to receive their NextMail audio messages in order for your contact list to be populated.Back To Top >>

How do I send a message?

How do I access my NextMail Text Messaging Contact List?

Subscribers can access it via the “NextMail Text Messaging” link at the top of their NextMail account. Non-subscribers are sent a link, which allows them to access their contact list, in an introductory email they receive the first time a NextMail subscriber sets them up as a recipient.

Does it cost anything to use NextMail Text Messaging service?

NextMail Text Messaging service is included at no extra charge with NextMailSM service.
There is no fee to send or receive a NextMail text message, but recording NextMail messages to respond does not use Nextel® Local Direct Connect airtime that could result in charges based on your rate plan. Recording messages internationally may also create Nextel® InterDirect Connect® airtime charges based on your plan. Nextel® Nationwide Direct Connect charges do not apply for any NextMail use.
