What is Direct Talk?

Direct Talk is an all-digital off-network Direct Connect service that works between compatible phones within a range of up to 6 miles. Terrain, weather, foliage and man-made structures (such as buildings), among other things, may impact range availability. Direct Talk operates on the 900 MHz ISM public frequency and provides group and private Direct Connect capability. Whenever you press your Direct Connect® button to begin a communication, you will hear a chirp. If that chirp is followed by a "bonk" sound and the "User Not Available" error message is displayed on your phone, no one was able to hear your transmission.
